Off the Beaten Track in Hisaronu

Hisaronu itself is definitely well ‘on’ the beaten track. It’s a lively and fun resort village, with bars and pubs, restaurants and shops, and numerous places to stay, attracting thousands of visitors every year, so this isn’t a holiday destination for tourists looking for peace and quiet. Having said this, Hisaronu is surrounded by beautiful mountains that are just begging to be explored so you don’t need to go very far to find peace and quiet in this part of Southern Turkey.

Touring the Mountains
A holiday in Hisaronu will treat you to some of Turkey’s most attractive scenery. The hillside location of this village means there are parts of Hisaronu that have wonderful views down to the coast in one direction, and green, pine clad mountains in the other. It’s these pine clad mountains that present the best opportunities for exploration, whether you go by car, on foot or some other means.

If you venture into the mountains by car you’ll cover the greatest distance and will likely come across one or two remote villages where it seems time forgot. You could even drive up to the top of the highest mountain in the area, Babadag, from which many daring souls go paragliding! If paragliding is not for you, you can still enjoy some fabulous views from up here. Travelling by car you can’t always appreciate just how beautiful these mountains are though, so if you’re able bodied why not take off into the mountains on foot?

You could also consider renting a bicycle and touring around forest paths and nature trails, or for a different experience take to horseback!

A popular place to hike to (so not really of the beaten track) is the ghost town of Kayakoy, which is just a couple of miles from the lively streets of Hisaronu.

The Lycian Way
Now reputed to be one of the world’s best walks, the Lycian Way is quickly becoming a beaten track! Stretching for a total of 300+ miles this historic and cultural trail begins in the Hisaronu area and ends in Antalya. If you’re looking for somewhere different to hike for a day then the Lycian Way could be it – and the trail is waymarked so you won’t get lost!
